The Unofficial Star Wars the Old Republic Strategy Guide
EQUIPMENT
WTOR is a game that's run by
numbers and a large source of
those numbers will come from
your equipment. At level 50, a fully
equipped player should increase their
damage or healing output by 75% or more
with readily available equipment compared
to someone without anything at all. This is
far from negligible and since many of the
higher level equipment comes with
customization slots, you can tailor the
pieces to fit your needs.
S
Basics
First, the basics of equipment. Every
player has 7 main armor slots; Chest,
Hands, Head, Feet, Legs, Waist and Wrists.
You'll also be able to equip 2 Implants, 1
Ear Piece and 2 Relics, though you won't
find many until your 20s. Finally you can
equip various weapons, shields and focii,
depending on your Advanced Class. As
mentioned in the Crew Skills section, each
of these can have an Augment slot for
some extra stat boosts though only armor
and weapons can contain actual crafted
mods (hilts, enhancements, etc...). The
really nice thing about the mod system is
that you can customize your gear to suit
your needs and still keep the look. If you
want to stack Power and Crit, you can swap
out all your existing mods for those ones,
without too much hassle. You can even
keep the existing mods by dragging them
out of the items, though this comes with a
fee, proportional to the level and quality of
the mod.
Next we have item quality. Grey items
are called Cheap and are meant to be sold
to vendors. Your active companion can be
sent to do this from the companions menu
and they will return after a minute with the
resulting credits. White items are standard
and are basic items like medpacs that don't
come with any stats. Green items are
premium and this covers 90% of the items
that you'll want to use in the game, such as
stims, armor, weapons and mods. Blue
items are prototype level and a lot rarer
than premium items. You'll be able to
purchase items of this quality from special
vendors on planets or by reverse
engineering a crew skill schematic. Purple
items are artifact level and have drastically
improved stats when compared to the
prototype level. You won't be able to
purchase these items directly, though you
may trade some items for them instead.
You also have a random chance of finding
one in a purple crate or on a hard flashpoint
